Žolės riedulys, lauko tenisas

The Women's Junior World Cup for field hockey will be played in Boston in August 2009.

Labas,

While I am Australian, I previously lived in Lithuania (for all too short a time) but while I was there I became and continue to be involved as a coach of the Lithuanian National women's field hockey team. I am writing to you on behalf of the Lithuanian Hockey Federation President, Leonardas Čaikauskas.
I hope (but doubt!) that you are aware that the Women's Junior World Cup for field hockey will be played in Boston in August 2009. What I am very proud to tell you is that last year, at the European Championships, Lithuania qualified for this tournament. So yes, the Lithuanian national team is coming to Boston to compete against the top 16 teams in the world!

To qualify, the team had to reach the European A division Championship which they did in 2006, and then finish in the top 6 in 2008 to reach the World Cup. Field hockey in Europe is very strong and in 2008 Lithuania finished in front of countries such as Belgium, France, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Russia and Ukraine and booked their tickets to Boston. The same girls have were recently also crowned European Champions for indoor field hockey only in January at a tournament held in Siauliai.

It would be fantastic to have the support of the American and in particular the Boston district Lithuanian communities during the tournament in as many and any ways possible. From crowd support, to practical help such as physiotherapy services or helping to reduce our accommodation costs, any and all support would be very, very gratefully received.

Finally, I doubt it will come as any surprise to you that the team faces serious funding difficulties for this tournament. The rough cost for our participation is 180,000 litų (~$65,000 USD) of which the Lithuanian government is currently only providing 50,000 litų. If you were able to provide any contacts or introductions to anyone in the Lithuanian community who could help with our plight I would, again, be very appreciative.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope I will meet at least a few of you at the World Cup.

Best Regards
James Young
